The video ended with a pair of exposed buttocks being spanked with a flyswatter before normal programming resumed. Well, if you’re wondering what’s happened, ha-ha…so am IĪ corrugated panel swiveled back and forth mimicking Max Headroom's geometric background effect. “They’re coming to get me!” the man screamed suddenly. The man was then spanked repeatedly with a flyswatter as he screamed. “Bend over, bitch,” a female voice responded. The rubber extension that had covered the figure’s finger was stuffed inside the mouth of the mask. The Max Headroom mask had been removed and was being held up to the camera. The camera then cut to a shot of a man’s torso and partially exposed buttocks. "But it's dirty! It's like you got bloodstains on it!" “My brother is wearing the other one.” “My brother is wearing the other one.” This person then begins to hold up a gardening glove in reference to pop star Michael Jackson and proclaims: this seems to be a direct nod to WGN, whose sister newspaper - the Chicago Tribune - went by the nickname " World's Greatest Newspaper" a reference to WGN's call letters …. "Oh, I just made a great masterpiece for the greatest world newspaper nerds!" This man, who was wearing a mask of fictional TV host Max Headroom, seemed to hack into the feed of WGN-TV (Channel 9) and WTTW (Channel 11) and to this day, investigators aren’t clear who he is or how he managed to hijack the airwaves. He screamed nonsense, and then he began to moan. The Max Headroom Incident On the evening of November 22nd, 1987, an oddly-dressed man appeared on two Chicago-based TV stations. He muttered phrases from television shows. He sang “your love is fading,” lyrics to (I Know) I’m Losing You by the Temptations. The figure flipped off the camera, his middle finger covered in a rubber extension.
"Your love is fading!" he shouts, before throwing the phallus to the floor. Then, "I think I'm better than Chuck Swirsky, frickin Liberal!" referring to the Chicago Bulls announcer who was then WGN Radio's go-to sportscaster. "He's a frickin nerd," Max says, in a voice that sounds like a cartoon villain.
